ESU Football Vs Ft. Hays State

October 1, 2012-For the first time since November 16, 2003 the Emporia State football team has made an appearance in the American Football Coaches Association Top 25. The Hornets are ranked #25 this week and are one of five MIAA teams in the Top 25. A total of 11 Super Region 3 teams are ranked this week with 15 teams getting votes in the coaches poll. Six teams from the region will advance to the NCAA Playoffs based on NCAA Regional Rankings at the end of the regular season.

Emporia State, the only 5-0 team in the MIAA, is ranked ninth in the nation in scoring and total offense and leads the MIAA in total offense, first downs, field goals and interceptions. They are averaging 41.6 points and 488.8 yards per game on the season, led by quarterback Tyler Eckenrode who is ranked ninth in the nation in total offense. Six different players have intercepted a pass on the season for a Hornet defense that has not allowed a first quarter point this season.

Since starting last season 1-4, the Hornets have gone 9-2 and averaged 38.4 points and 473.4 yards per game.

Emporia State is back in action on Saturday, October 6 when they travel to Southwest Baptist. Kick-off from Plaster Stadium in Bolivar, Mo. is set for 2 p.m.
