(WIBW) - After losing his starting role, quarterback Jake Heaps is reportedly leaving the University of Kansas.

ESPN cited sources in reporting Tuesday night that Heaps is transferring from the KU football program. Heaps started nine games in the 2013 season. He completed 128-of-261 passes on the season, totaling 1,414 yards and eight touchdowns

He sat out 2012 after transferring from BYU.

After spring workouts, Coach Charlie Weis announced sophomore Montell Cozart would lead the offense this fall. Cozart is out of Kansas City's Bishop Miege High School. He started three games as a true freshman.

Katy Lonergan, KU's director of football communications, could not confirm reports of a transfer Tuesday night. She could only say there was a team meeting Tuesday afternoon and Heaps was present.
