Djokovic, Sharapova Advance To Australian Open Semis

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) _ Novak Djokovic won his 19th consecutive match at Melbourne Park to keep alive his bid for a third successive Australian Open title, beating fifth-seeded Tomas Berdych 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals Tuesday night.

Djokovic has now reached the semifinals at an 11th consecutive major, second only to Roger Federer's streak of 23.

The top-ranked Djokovic will next play No. 4 David Ferrer, who came back to beat fellow Spaniard Nicolas Almagro in five sets.

Djokovic has beaten Berdych in 12 of their 13 encounters, his only loss being in the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2010.

Sharapova advances to Australian Open semis<

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) _ Four-time major winner Maria Sharapova has advanced to the semifinals of the Australian Open with a 6-2, 6-2 win over fellow Russian Ekaterina Makarova.

The second-seeded Sharapova reached her 16th career Grand Slam semifinal in 66 minutes on Tuesday. She broke Makarova's serve five times and hit 22 winners.

Sharapova has dropped only nine games en route to the semifinals, including a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins.

Sharapova next plays sixth-seeded Li Na of China, who defeated Poland's Agnieszka Radwanska earlier in the day, 7-5, 6-3.
