TOPEKA, Kan. -- Connor Crimmins doubled in the winning run Sunday afternoon to give the Ichabods a 10-9 win over Lindenwood on Senior Day at Falley Field.
Washburn improved to 10-33 and wrapped up the MIAA portion of the schedule at 9-32. The season will conclude with a 6 p.m. game Wednesday at Rockhurst.
Washburn seniors Richard Swan, Tony Spicuglia, Brad Alberts and Trent Speaker were honored before the game as they played their final contest at Falley Field.
The Ichabods loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth but the Lions got two strikeouts to nearly end the threat and keep their 9-7 lead. Parker Gibson then hit an infield single up the middle to score a run and keep the bases loaded for Crimmins. He drove the second pitch he saw to left-center field to score Richard Swan and David Gauntt and give Washburn a 10-9 lead.
Greg Mason, who entered the game in the seventh, closed it out to get his second win (2-2). He allowed a hit and a walk but no runs in the effort. He retired Lindenwood in order in the ninth.
The Ichabods took the lead early but the Lions tied it in the fourth and took the lead in the seventh.
Parker Gibson and Crimmins led off the first with walks for Washburn. Gibson stole second and then third in the process and scored on a single from Riley Price. Price and Crimmins then scored on a double from senior Brad Alberts.
Lindenwood tied the game in the top of the fourth off three hits and two Washburn errors. The Ichabods got two of those runs back in the bottom of the inning. Swan, who missed Senior Day ceremony with a pregame injury, hit a pinch hit double and scored on two wild pitches. John Stoothoff, who walked before the first wild pitch, later scored on a groundout from Taylor Herrington.
Swan walked twice and scored three runs and Alberts ended with two RBI. Gibson ended up stealing three bases.
Washburn also scored two runs in the sixth on an error and a balk.
Mark Biesma started for Washburn and made it six innings. He allowed four runs, two of the earned, and gave up seven hits with a strikeout and four walks.
