Kansas City, Mo. – It was a wild day in St. Joseph, Mo. while Northwest Missouri rolled at home in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs.
Northwest Missouri 35, Harding 0
Northwest Missouri forced three Harding turnovers and did not allow them positive yardage passing as they move on with a 35-0 first round win. The Bearcats averaged 6.7 yards per play from scrimmage as they moved in the NCAA Division II Regional.
Trevor Adams was 17 of 26 for 212 yards and two touchdowns to lead NWMSU. Bill Creason, playing in place of the injured Jordan Simmons rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Shaw caught five passes for 119 yards and a score. On defense for the Bearcats DJ Gnader and Zach Williams had 11 tackles each while Nate DeJong added ten stops and an interception.
NWMSU will now travel to Mankato, Minn. on Nov. 24 for a match-up with top seeded Minnesota State.
Missouri Western 57, Minnesota Duluth 55
It took three overtimes in St. Joseph, Mo. but Missouri western emerged with the 57-55 gridlock victory. Each team scored on every possession of the overtimes, but a botched play by Minnesota-Duluth on an extra point try gave the Griffons their first playoff win.
Travis Partridge had a monster day throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for four as he threw for a career high 319 yards. Michael Hill carried the ball 24 times for 187 yards and a touchdown. The game on a whole saw 1,147 yards of total offense as each team failed to score on just four drives each in the entire game. On defense for MWSU Stephen Juergens had 17 tackles, three for a loss. Wallace Carter added 13 stops while Marc Harrison had 12 tackles and an interception.
Missouri Western will travel to second seeded Henderson State on Nov. 24 for a second round game.
