LAWRENCE, Kan. – KU soccer’s junior midfielder Whitney Berry was named to the All-Central Region First Team it was announced Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Joining her teammate was junior forward Caroline Kastor, who was placed on the second team.

Berry, an All-Big 12 First Team honoree, had an outstanding senior campaign in which she led the team with seven assists and chipped in six goals. Her seven helpers were the second-most in the Big 12 on the year. The Wichita, Kan. native ended her career as KU’s career-leader in assists (32), No. 2 in career points (78) and tied for third-most all-time with her 23 goals. She was also No. 2 on the school charts in shots, amassing 267 during her four-year career. The All-Central Region honor is Berry’s second as she was named to the Second Team last season, but finds herself on the First Team for the first time.

Berry’s selection also marks the fifth time a Jayhawk has been named to the All-Central First Team.

Kastor also enjoyed a breakout season for the Jayhawks, leading the team in goals (11) and points (24) in 2012. The Wichita, Kan. native put in the fourth-most goals in the conference this season, while her 1.2 points per match were seventh-most in the Big 12. She was named the Big 12’s Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11 after scoring four goals in two matches. Kastor’s 11 goals on the year tied KU great Caroline Smith’s 2003 mark for most goals by a junior in a season.

Kansas finished the season at 10-8-2, falling to Texas Tech in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Soccer Championship.
