Assistant AD Jill McCartney Stepping Down To Lead Doane Athletics

Topeka, Kan. Washburn athletic director Loren Ferré has announced assistant athletic director Jill McCartney has resigned to become the new athletic director at Doane College in Crete, Neb.

"Jill has done an outstanding job as our compliance director the past five years and has been a key member of our department's administrative staff and we wish her the best of luck in her new position at Doane," Ferré said.

McCartney was hired as Washburn's Assistant Athletics Director and senior woman administrator overseeing the athletic department's compliance program on Aug. 3, 2009. McCartney came to Washburn from Metro State in Denver where she served Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Academic Services since November 2007.

At Metro State, McCartney was responsible for ensuring that the entire athletic program is in compliance with NCAA and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rules and regulations. She was the liaison between the athletic department and the college's faculty and oversaw the academic progress of student-athletes. In addition, McCartney oversaw the swimming and diving and cheerleading programs, assisted the athletic director with all aspects of the athletic department and worked with the department's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Prior to coming to Metro State, McCartney was the head women's soccer coach and an assistant professor of English at Southwest Minnesota State University from 1998-2007. In addition to her head coaching responsibilities, she taught courses in American literature and composition. While at SMSU, McCartney served as a faculty mentor and on numerous committees, and was also an active member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). McCartney, who received her PhD in Education from Capella University in 2008, also was an assistant soccer coach and graduate assistant teacher of English at Arizona and the head soccer coach at Marquette during her career.

McCartney received her master's degree in English Literature from Arizona, as well as a bachelor's degree in English from North Carolina.
