TOPEKA, Kan., (Sept. 17, 2007) – Wally is back at Heartland Park Topeka after a seven year absence. Team Heartland Park picked up the tracks fourth championship Wally after it was crowned 2007 ET Finals Champion at the drag strip at HPT on Sunday, Sept., 16. The track has previous championships in 1993, 1998 and 2000.
Team Heartland Park racked up 61 points for the win. Brainerd International Raceway came in second with 54 points and defending 2006 champion Rock Falls Raceway finished in third.
Individual winners were JR Lobner, Gardner, Kan., Andy Schmall, Lino Lakes, Minn., Tim Lewandowski, St. Paul, Minn., Alex Barmettler, Maplewood, Minn., and Cale Crispe, Lake Wood, Colo.
Lobner, piloted his ’03 Mullins to a pass of 10.718 at 77.63 mph over Tom Carlson of Two Harbors, Minn., for the super pro championship.
Schmall ran a pass of 10.483 at 126.34 mph in his ’71 Vega for the PRO ET championship by defeating Troy Ross who represented Heartland Park Topeka, Emporia, Kan., piloting a ’69 Nova.
Sportsman champion Lewandowski of St. Paul, Minn., drove his ’55 Belair to a win with a pass of 12.972 at 99.59 mph over Troy Singleton of Evansville, Wyo., in a ’72 Skylark.
The pro bike championship was won by Barmettler with a pass of 10.211 at 121.59 mph on his ’78 Kawasaki. He defeated Mike Voss, Maplewood, Minn., who ran a ’97 Kawasaki.
High school champion Crispe, made a pass of 11.443 at 112.60 mph in a ’64 Nova to defeat Todd Piper, also representing Heartland Park Topeka, out of Wamego, Kan.
The divisional champions in Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman and Pro Bike will now move on to compete for the Summit National Championship at Pomona Raceway. NHRA Divisional champions from across the nation will gather to compete for the title of NHRA Summit Racing Series National Champion.
