MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State women’s tennis will play in the first of four fall tournaments this weekend when the squad travels to Tulsa, Okla. Other squads sending players to the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus are Oklahoma State and Arkansas.

Head coach Steve Bietau enters his 24th season with five letterwinners returning from last year’s team. Leading the way this season will be the team’s number one player from the 2007 campaign, senior Viviana Yrureta. Yrureta played in the number one position throughout the 2007 spring season and finished with a 4-8 record in Big 12 action.

Also returning for the Wildcats are senior Fernanda Da Valle, junior Katerina Kudlackova and sophomore Natasha Vieira. Da Valle started the 2007 spring season in the number five position, but ascended to the number two position in the lineup. She tallied a record of 7-9 overall and 3-4 in the Big 12, including two separate three-match win streaks.

Kudlackova saw action at the number three and four positions throughout the 2007 season and carded a record of 5-5 in the Big 12 and 7-11 overall. The product of Ceska Trebova, Czech Republic, won three consecutive Big 12 matches from April 7-14.

Vieira finished her rookie campaign with a 5-13 record overall and a 3-8 mark in the Big 12. The native of Carabobo, Venezuela, played in the four, five and six spots in the K-State lineup a season ago and won consecutive matches against Texas Tech and Kansas.

Following this weekend’s event, Kansas State will play in three additional fall tournaments. The next event is Oct. 5-7 at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind., followed by the ITA Central Regionals in Tulsa, Okla., on Oct. 17-21.
