LAWRENCE -- Lawrence’s newest premiere hotel, the Oread near Memorial Stadium, is requesting permission from the City of Lawrence to hold neighborhood block parties beginning in August through the fall football season. The proposed events would include celebrations for six KU home football games and various local high school games. The family friendly events will include music, a kid’s zone, food tents and special guests from KU and local athletic teams.

“In supporting the local high schools and KU football games, The Oread hotel is excited to bring family fun and entertainment to the Oread neighborhood and the north gate of KU campus as we embark on a new 2010 football season,” says Nancy Longhurst, General Manager of The Olivia Collection, a management company for The Oread, The Eldridge and The Eldridge Extended hotels.

The Oread is the most unique and complete center for lodging, hospitality, business and social leisure activities in the region, perched atop Mount Oread, just outside the north gate of The University of Kansas. The Oread is currently taking reservations for rooms, conferences, meetings, parties and weddings at 785.843.1200. www.theoread.com.
