MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas State men’s and women’s cross country teams
will travel to Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday Sept. 15 to compete at the
Woody Greeno Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska. The
women’s race will begin at 10 a.m. followed by the men’s race at 10:45
a.m. at Pioneer’s Park in southwest Lincoln.
This will be the largest competition of the young season for the Cats as
a field of around 30 is anticipated. The last time that K-State
competed in the Woody Greeo Invitational was during the 2005 season.
Both the men and women team finished 14th in the competition.
On Friday Sept. 7, the Wildcats hosted the K-State/KU Dual at Warner
Park in Manhattan. The teams split the 5K competitions as the K-State
women and the KU men both won their respective races. Sophomore
newcomer Beverly Ramos led the pack for the women, placing first with a
time of 18:23.40 in her first race as a Wildcat. The men’s race was
highlighted by the performance of junior Alex Umberger with a time of
15:47.40, good enough for a third place finish.
The Woody Greeno Invitational will be the second meet for the Huskers
after kicking off their 2007 campaign at the Creighton/UNO Classic on
Sept. 1. The women’s team placed first in the 5K competition led by
freshman Lara Crofford with a time of 18:34. The men came in second
behind Creighton University.
