WAIPAHU, Hawaii - The Rainbow Wahine scored three second half goals en route to a 4-0 non-conference triumph Friday evening at Waipio Soccer Stadium in the first contest of the season for both teams.
Sophomore Ambree Ako got the Rainbow Wahine on the scoreboard early, when she collected a misplayed ball just outside the box and buried the early chance at 3:37 of the first half.
The Jayhawks defense clamped down after that, allowing just one shot in the final 40 minutes of the first half.
However, the Rainbow Wahine struck three times in the second half, including the final blow, which came on a penalty kick in the 68th minute.
KU actually outshot Hawaii 12-6 in the match and had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Erin Ellefson paced the offense with three shots, while senior Nicole Cauzillo and sophomore Monica Dolinsky had a pair each.
Kansas will face Auburn Saturday evening at 7 p.m. local time (12 a.m. CST) in its final match of the weekend.
