Parks & Recreation of Topeka has hosted national softball tournaments for several years, but nothing like this. The Men’s Class D Slow Pitch Northern National Championship begins this Friday with 65 teams from 11 states.
To accommodate the number of teams some games will be played at Felker Park fields in addition to those at the Rueger Park Softball Complex, and tournament play will extend through Monday. According to Interim Director Terry Bertels: “Parks & Recreation of Topeka is excited about the opportunity to host a tournament of this size. It’s a good chance for Topeka to show off its facilities and for the city to entertain guests from throughout the Midwest.”
Opening ceremonies will be held 6 p.m. Friday at Rueger Park Softball Complex, 2801 SE Kansas Avenue. For additional information call Bruce Andrews at 368-3808 or Terry Bertels at 368-3838.
