ESU Athletes Volunteer Locally

EMPORIA, KAN. (August 26, 2007)--While Emporia State*s fall sports
were getting started over the weekend, the Hornet spring sports were
helping the Abundant Harvest Food Kitchen prepare for the coming fall
and winter months. The ESU track, baseball and tennis teams worked on
the grounds and the floor of the Kitchen*s building at 1028 Whittier.

The Hornet track and field team removed carpet on Friday in preparation
for repair of the floor underneath. Saturday morning the Hornet baseball
team did landscaping duties around the building, while the women*s
tennis team rotated the food in the pantry. In the afternoon the
men*s tennis team assisted with the repair of the floor underneath
the carpet that was removed by the track team.

The Abundant Harvest Food Kitchen, an affiliate of the Emporia Rescue
Mission, serves a hot home cooked dinner to any one in need, on Monday
through Thursday. In its first four years the kitchen has served over
20,000 meals.

Emporia State University Athletics is committed to the total
development of its student-athletes. To further that commitment, the
Athletics Department provides a comprehensive community service program
targeting opportunities for student-athlete involvement in team
projects, individual projects, and special projects.
