CHICAGO (TICKER) -- The Kansas City Royals placed lefthander Odalis Perez on the 15-day disabled list with a left knee sprain on Wednesday.
The moved was retroactive to Sunday for Perez, who injured himself in Saturday's 7-3 win at the Oakland Athletics. He threw five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and four walks.
In his first full season with the Royals, the 30-year-old Perez is 8-11 with a 5.57 ERA in 26 starts.
In a corresponding move, Kansas City recalled outfielder Shane Costa from Class AAA Omaha.
This is the second stint with the Royals for Costa, who has hit .185 with seven RBI in 33 games this season.
