For the eighth consecutive season, the Kansas City Chiefs are proud to host a “Celebration of Youth Football.” This year’s recognition takes place as part of Play Football Month festivities. This season’s events will be held August 16th (vs. Miami Dolphins) and 23rd (vs. New Orleans Saints) during preseason games at Arrowhead Stadium. Between these two games the Chiefs will host approximately 3,500 youth football participants from throughout the metro area.
These future NFL stars will tour the Arrowhead turf during pregame warm-ups before returning to their seats and watching their gridiron heroes take to the field. Some of these children will also be involved with the presentation of the National Anthem at each game.
“Youth football is the life blood of the NFL,” Chiefs President Carl Peterson said. “We need to continue to work hard to promote and expand youth football in America.”
In addition to the pregame activities, several young football players will have the opportunity to suit up and play at halftime of the Chiefs game against the Dolphins. The KC Thunder will play against the K.C. Ravens at the east end of the field while the Blue Valley West Jaguars will play against the 7th Grade Olathe South Falcons at the west end of the field. Also, at the beginning of this game Mission Hills’ Caroline Farchmin, who was crowned Champion in the 2006-2007 NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick National Competition (Girls 14-15), will be honored.
In addition to local footballers taking part in the “Celebration of Youth Football” program at the Saints game, the Greensburg High School football team will also be in attendance. Their community was recently shaken from the effects of an EF5 tornado. The disaster might have destroyed their team’s material objects but failed to do the same to their love of the game. They will be joining the Red and Gold as VIP guests and will be honored during pregame activities while also meeting the team and partaking in a special Chiefs-sponsored pregame tailgate meal.

This fall marks the fourth year of Play Football Month and 2007 is shaping up to be the best year yet.
