LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas outfielder Brock Simpson has signed with the Cleveland Indians organization. Simpson becomes the third Jayhawk to sign a professional contract this summer, joining former teammates Kyle Murphy (Texas Rangers) and Zach Ashwood (Chicago Cubs).

Simpson, a 46th-round selection by the Indians in this year’s draft, signed a pro contract just before the Aug. 15 deadline. Had he not come to terms with Cleveland prior to Wednesday, he would have been eligible for next season’s amateur draft.

“I’m very happy for Brock,” Kansas Head Coach Ritch Price said. “For every kid that grows up playing baseball, signing a pro contract is a dream come true.”

Simpson hit .273 in three seasons with the Jayhawks, including a career-high mark of .293 during his sophomore year. The 6-foot-2 outfielder drove in 89 runs, recorded 11 triples and collected 18 stolen bases in 21 attempts. He earned Academic All-Big 12 Second Team honors in 2006.
