LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas soccer team reported to campus Friday morning and will hold its first practice of the 2007 season Saturday morning.

Ninth-year head coach Mark Francis welcomes back nine returning starters and 19 players overall from last year’s squad, which finished 11-7-1 and fourth in the Big 12. The Jayhawks have 11 newcomers on the 2007 roster.

“This is one of the most talented groups that we’ve ever had here,” Francis said. “I’m excited to get on the field and see what we can do.”

Kansas opens the season with a pair of matches in Honolulu, Hawaii, beginning with the season opener against the University of Hawaii on Aug. 31 at 12 a.m. CST (7 p.m. Hawaii time).

The Jayhawks’ home opener is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 6 against BYU beginning at 5 p.m. at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex. KU will play 10 home matches this season, including a Senior Day matchup with Border Showdown rival Missouri on Nov. 2.
