SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Barry Bonds has broken Hank Aaron's all-time home run record, hitting his 756th in tonight's game against Washington.
The San Francisco Giants slugger set the mark with a 5th-inning blast off Nationals pitcher Mike Bacsik.
Bonds was mobbed by his teammates at home plate after launching a 3-2 pitch over the right-center field wall. He breaks a record originally set by Aaron in April of 1974.
Aaron honored Bonds with a videotaped congratulations, offering
his best wishes to Bonds and his family on "this historic occasion."
Bonds was joined on the field by his godfather, Willie Mays, during a ceremony following the homer.
