LAWRENCE, Kan. – Former University of Kansas men’s basketball player Larry Davenport died Friday, August 3, due to complications of the heart. He was 74.
A member of the 1952 NCAA championship team, Davenport lettered at Kansas from 1952-55. The Jayhawks were three-time Big Seven Conference champions and the 1953 KU team finished as NCAA runner-up to Indiana. Davenport averaged 3.7 points per game throughout his career and played in 80 contests under head coach Phog Allen.
Originally from Newton, Kan., Davenport was a renowned commercial artist in Kansas City, Colorado Springs, Denver and San Francisco.
Memorial Services for Davenport will be held at the Leavenworth National Cementery on Tuesday, August 7 at 1:30 p.m.
