Royals Return to Kauffman Stadium for Seven Games


ROYALS RETURN TO KAUFFMAN STADIUM FOR SEVEN GAMES

KANSAS CITY, MO (Aug. 2, 2007) – The Kansas City Royals return to Kauffman Stadium to host a seven-game homestand that includes games against the Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays. The opening three-game set with Minnesota is highlighted by a fan-favorite Dodge Buck Night and the annual Royals Charities Back to School Supply Drive on Wednesday, Aug. 8. The Royals close the homestand with a four-game set against the Toronto Blue Jays that includes a rare Sunday night game, 6:10 p.m. on Aug. 12. The series also features the fourth Royals Hall of Fame Bobblehead – Cookie Rojas – and the team’s Special Olympics Baseball Clinic on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Tuesday, Aug. 7 – Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.
Events:
§ Launch of the Commissioner's Initiative for Kids at Kauffman Stadium: The Royals are joining Major League Baseball to send kids to the ballpark through the Commissioner’s Initiative for Kids program. During the months of August and September, the program will provide one million tickets to kids and community groups throughout all 30 Major League Baseball cities. In conjunction with the program, the Royals will make available 50,000 tickets to local non-profit children’s charities. Organizations who serve underprivileged children are invited to contact the Royals Community Relations department to request tickets.

Wednesday, Aug. 8 – Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

§ SPECIAL MID-WEEK Dodge Buck Night: A Kauffman Stadium favorite comes in the middle of the week! Fans can get hot dogs, peanuts and small Pepsis for $1 each all game long.

§ Royals Charities Back to School Drive: Royals Charities helps disadvantaged kids experience the excitement of getting new supplies for the first day of school. Royals Wives and volunteers collect school supplies to benefit Our Lady of Guadalupe Elementary School. Fans can drop off school supplies from 5-7 p.m. at Gates A, B, C and D of Kauffman Stadium.
§ Dream Factory: Celebrating a 15-year partnership with Dream Factory, the Royals will grant the wish of a Dream Factory child, who faces a life-altering illness, with a unique game-day experience at the ballpark. The child’s Royals experience will appear on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast in the “Dream Factory” segment.
§ College Night: Both college and high school students score big with $5 Outfield Plaza tickets for Wednesday night games all season long. Students will receive a $14 ticket for just $5 by showing their student I.D. College Night tickets are available for purchase only on the day of the game at Kauffman Stadium (no phone orders). Ticket windows open 90 minutes prior to game time.

Thursday, Aug. 9 – Minnesota Twins vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

§ Buses for Baseball: The MLB Players Association hosts children to baseball games in all 30 ballparks through the Buses for Baseball program. Children are provided tickets, souvenirs, food and transportation to watch big league action in person. The program began in Kansas City in 2000 and has now expanded to all Major League cities. Prior to the game, Royals players will welcome children from Della Lamb Community Services.

Friday, Aug. 10 – Toronto Blue Jays vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

§ Hy-Vee/Pepsi Fireworks Friday: Fans get treated to a post-game fireworks show, courtesy of Hy-Vee and Pepsi.
§ Bob Evans Friends and Family Night: The Royals have extended the Friends and Family package to Fridays. Fans can get four Outfield Plaza tickets, four hot dogs, four Pepsis, a bag of peanuts or popcorn and a Royals GameDay magazine for just $40.

§ Special Olympics Baseball Clinic: Royals players and coaches host a special baseball clinic at Kauffman Stadium for athletes from Special Olympics Kansas City Metro, Special Olympics Kansas and the Down Syndrome Guild from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
§ Royals Silent Auction for Coolbaugh Family: The Royals will hold silent auctions featuring unique Royals items at Friday home games in August to benefit the family of former Royals minor league player Mike Coolbaugh. On Friday, Aug. 10, several outstanding items will be available including a John Buck autographed chest protector, Mike Sweeney signed game-used cleats and autographed bats, helmets and jerseys from Mark Teahen, David DeJesus and others. The auction will take place from the time the gates open until 8:30 p.m. in Section 101-102 on the main concourse at Kauffman Stadium. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Mike Coolbaugh Memorial Fund, established by the Tulsa Drillers Baseball Club and Spirit Bank in Tulsa, Okla. Coolbaugh, who played for the Omaha Royals in 2006, became the hitting coach for the Tulsa Drillers, the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, earlier this month. He was tragically killed on Sunday, July 22, after being struck in the back of the neck by a line drive while coaching first base during a game in North Little Rock, Ark.

Saturday, Aug. 11 – Toronto Blue Jays vs. Royals, 6:10 p.m.

§ Royals Hall of Fame Bobblehead Series No. 4 – Cookie Rojas: The first 20,000 fans will receive a Cookie Rojas bobblehead from Dodge, the fourth of five Royals Hall of Fame Bobbleheads this season. Also, from 4:30-5:15 p.m., Rojas will be in the lower seating bowl of Kauffman Stadium for an autograph session. The final Royals Hall of Fame Bobblehead night is Saturday, Sept. 8 – Fred Patek.
