NEW YORK (TICKER) -- Kansas City Royals first baseman Billy Butler was named American League Rookie of the Month for July on Thursday.
Butler hit .341 with six doubles, one triple, three homers and 24 RBI in the month, slugging .527 and scoring 13 runs.
The 21-year-old Butler highlighted his month by going 3-for-5 with a double, homer, four runs scored and six RBI in a 17-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on July 3.
The 14th overall pick in the 2004 draft, he is hitting .305 with four homers and 30 RBI in 42 contests.
Other AL rookies receiving votes included Kasson Gabbard, who was dealt to the Texas Rangers from the Boston Red Sox this week, Josh Fields of the Chicago White Sox, Delmon Young of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Jesse Litsch of the Toronto Blue Jays and the Red Sox's Hideki Okajima.
