LAWRENCE, Kan. - The University of Kansas has formally announced Katy Lonergan as assistant media relations director for Kansas Athletics. She will be the primary media contact for women’s basketball in addition to publicizing KU’s 18 varsity sports.
Lonergan brings an invaluable amount of experience to the Jayhawks after seven years at the University of Mississippi. While in Oxford, she served as the primary media contact for women’s basketball, volleyball, men’s and women’s golf and men’s and women’s track and field. Lonergan also spent time as the co-primary contact for Rebels football and served in a secondary role with men’s basketball program.
A 1998 KU graduate, Lonergan joined the Ole Miss staff as and assistant media relations director in 2001 and was promoted to associate in August 2006. Prior to working with at Ole Miss, the Iola, Kan., native served as a web editor at Internet SportStations Inc. and as an intern with the NCAA for the 1999 Division I NCAA Men’s Final Four. In her final year at Kansas, Lonergan worked as a student assistant in the media relations office.
Lonergan will officially join the media relations department August 1, and will then travel with the women’s basketball team to Australia, August 4-14. Lonergan completed her degree in psychology from Kansas in 1998.
