Lady Blues Soccer team picked to repeat by MIAA coaches

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- The Washburn Lady Blues Soccer team was picked to repeat as champions by the league's coaches in the annual MIAA preseason poll which was released today.
The Lady Blues open the 2007 season on Aug. 25 against Central Oklahoma in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Washburn, who snapped the seven-year run of Truman State University as the MIAA's only champion, edged Missouri Southern for the top spot in the ranking, 43-41.
The Lady Blues collected four of the seven available first-place votes.
Washburn returns the league's top scorer and 2006 Most Valuable Player, junior F Jessica Mainz (13 goals, 4 assists, 30 points).
The Lady Blues return nine letter winners from last season’s squad which went 15-1-6 overall and 10-1-3 in MIAA play clinching the conference title on the last regular season date of the year with a 2-1 win over MissouriSouthern. Washburn reached the NCAA Central Regional Final, but fell in penalty kicks to No. 1 ranked Nebraska-Omaha.
