Smyth alone at top as Watson falters at Senior Brittish

GULLANE, Scotland (AP) _ Des Smyth (smihth) shot a second-round
70 to take the lead at the Senior British Open, while Tom Watson
lost out on a chance for a share of the lead when he missed a
five-foot putt on the last hole.
Smith was the only player to break a 70 on the windswept
Muirfield links.
One of Watson's five British Open titles was won at Muirfield in
1980. He's tied with Eduardo Romero, Gordon J. Brand and Stewart
Ginn at 1-under.
First round leader Nick Faldo lost his putting touch and dropped
to sixth place after shooting a 74.
