Jarek Van Petten, of Meriden, just returned from the Wrangler division National Finals of the High School Rodeo Association.
Van Petten came in 9th in the team roping with Colby Boos and 18th in the tie down roping. Jarek's dad says he may have been the only 7th grader to make the top 20 in Tie Down Roping.
Van Petten's horse, Watch Out for Katy, won AQHA horse of the year honors. Katy gets a new Saddle and Jarek receives a $500 dollar scholarship.
The two will head to the AQHA youth world show in August to compete in Tie Down Roping, and Team Roping.
