Royals Rough Up Red Sox

BOSTON (AP) _ The Boston Red Sox keep losing close ones. Billy
Butler doubled in the go-ahead run in a four-run fifth inning and
the Kansas City Royals battered Julian Tavarez for a 6-to-5 victory
over the struggling Red Sox.
In his last five starts, Tavarez is 0-and-4 with a 7.71 ERA and
has allowed 42 hits in 23 and a-third innings. He didn't make it
past the fifth inning in four of those outings. Overall he's
5-and-8.
The Red Sox are 3-and-7 since July fifth when their lead was 12
games. Nine of their last eleven losses have been by one run.
Odalis Perez went five innings for the win. He's 5-and-8.
The Royals are in the A-L Central cellar but are 12-and-7 in
their last 19 games after winning two of three in Botson. Their
next stop is against another division leader when they start a
three-game series Friday night in Detroit.
