Former LSU linebacker Dave Peterson died in a motorcycle accident, the school announced Wednesday. He was 26.
Peterson was killed Tuesday morning when he crashed his Kawasaki motorcycle into a sports utility vehicle. The fatal accident took place on Brady Street in Baton Rouge, according to a school spokesman.
Peterson signed with LSU in the spring of 2001 and was a member of the Tigers' 2003 BCS national championship squad. He appeared in eight games that season and 14 in his career.
A native of Bristol, Florida, Peterson became the second member of the 2003 championship team to die tragically this summer.
Defensive end Marquis Hill, who spent the last three seasons with the NFL's New England Patriots, drowned in a jet ski accident on May 28.
