CLEVELAND (TICKER) -- The Kansas City Royals activated lefthander John Bale from the 60-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game with the Cleveland Indians.
Bale, who was signed as a free agent in the offseason, has been out since spring training with a left shoulder injury, as well as a strained left glute muscle.
Bale spent the last three seasons pitching in the Japanese League, last appearing in the majors with Cincinnati in 2003.
In a corresponding move, Kansas City optioned lefthander Neal Musser to Class AAA Omaha of the Pacific Coast League. Musser allowed 12 runs - 11 earned - in 18 1/3 innings over 12 relief appearances this season.
The Royals also transferred newly acquired righthander Roman Colon to the 60-day DL to clear room on the 40-man roster for Bale.
