14 Year Old Claims First Medal of Sunflower State Games

Jr. Golf Tournament Recap:

14-year old, Tony Simons claimed the first gold medal of the 2007 Sunflower State Games with a three-over 73 on Friday at Lake Shawnee Golf Course. The Juniors Golf Tournament helped kick-off the games with over forty-five competitors. Tony, a native of Overland Park, KS won the 13-14 year old division by two strokes over Kenneth Benoit of Topeka, KS, and Conor Burns of Carbondale, KS who received silver and bronze respectfully.

Only three strokes separated the 15-17 year old boy’s placers as Casey Bettis of Berryton, KS won the Gold Medal with a five-over, 75. Tanner Burns of Carbondale, KS, shot a 78 for the silver and Nolan Pahmahmie of Mayetta, KS, posted a 79 for bronze.

A brother-sister combination took a pair of medals in the 10-12 year old division as Haley Grable shot a 59 through 9 nine holes to claim the female Gold medal. Her brother, Graham Grable’s 53 earned him the bronze medal for the boys side.

The Junior Golf Tournament took advantage of the terrific morning and excellent Lake Shawnee Golf Course to start the Sunflower State Games off to a great two weekends.
