Games Are More Than Just Fun

It’s finally here.
The arrival of the Sunflower State Games is the subject for tonight’s “On the Mark”.
During our lengthy preview to the games, we’ve introduced you to many of the games’ commissioners who are directly responsible for the success of the games.
Their genuine enthusiasm is why topeka is a great host city for the sporting event of the year.
Of course, I say sporting event of the year --- not because it will draw marquee attention, but because it will draw more actual participants into Topeka than anything else. Think of the Sunflower State Games as intramurals, super-sized, and that is pretty accurate.
Although, that downsizes as an explanation for how important it can be for Northeast Kansas.
To have the opportunity to host more than six thousand people and their families is great not just because of the “more, the merrier” factor. It’s flat out good business to have that many people shopping, eating, sleeping… and yes… playing in our town. And… there’s room for growth.
The Sunflower State Games will be putting its reputation on the line in trying to insure that every participating athlete has the kind of experience that will make the event grow.
It’s not a stretch to say that a friendly, and welcoming community is essential, too. let’s look forward to a couple of great weekends … with a reminder for everyone to do their part… even if it’s nothing more than a friendly hello. That’s “On the Mark”.
What do you think(?) There are a couple of ways to let me know. My sports commentaries air Monday nights at ten.
