The #5 Emporia State Lady Hornets will be taking part in the nation wide WBCA Pink Zone® initiative during two home games this week.

The Lady Hornets will be wearing pink uniforms as they take on Southwest Baptist and Missouri Southern in White Auditorium this week. Wednesday's game against SBU will be used to raise awareness for the fundraising efforts during the MSSU game on Saturday.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink to help ESU Athletics raise Breast Cancer Awareness and will be able to get a free ticket with the purchase of ticket while wearing pink to Saturday's game.

The JuneBug Cancer Foundation will be the beneficiary of the fundraising efforts. Fans who make a donation to the JuneBug Foundation at the games will be eligible for a variety of prizes, including an autographed Lady Hornet basketball, a gift package from the Sweet Granada and a Pink

Zone decorated cake.

The WBCA began the WBCA Pink Zone®, formerly known as "Think Pink", in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women's basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success. In 2008, over 1,200 teams and organizations participated, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research. The 2009 campaign raised over $1.3 million, reached over 912,000 fans, unified more than 1,600 participating teams and organizations, and saw 56+ schools break attendance records at their event.

The Lady Hornets are 20-2 on the season, 13-2 and in first place in the MIAA. They clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament with their 96-78 win over Neb.-Omaha on Saturday night. They have won 16 straight games in White Auditorium, the longest active home court winning streak in the MIAA. Tip-off for both Pink Zone® games is set for 5:30 p.m.
