The event, presented by Royals and Fox Sports Kansas City broadcaster Ryan Lefebvre’s Footprints Foundation, will raise funds for the Salvation Army to help provide winter clothes and support for the homeless.
Participants include Royals Hall of Fame players Dennis Leonard, Paul Splittorff, Jeff Montgomery, Frank White and Willie Wilson along with former Royals players Mike Boddicker, Al Fitzmorris, Shane Halter, David Howard and Brian McRae. Sports media personalities include Lefebvre and Joel Goldberg of Fox Sports Kansas City, as well as Bob Davis, Denny Matthews and Steve Stewart with the Royals Radio Network.
Public admission to the event is free, however guests are encouraged to bring a donation of adult or children-sized winter gloves or make a financial donation. Everyone who donates will be entered into a drawing for an assortment of prizes, including an opportunity to visit Lefebvre in the Fox Sports Kansas City television booth for an inning during a 2010 Royals game. The public is also invited that evening to participate in a silent auction of sports-related memorabilia.
In addition to the Winter Gloves for Kids event, several of Thursday’s participants will also take part in the Honk n’ Holler program on Wednesday, February 10 at 6:30 p.m., delivering hot food, drinks and warm clothing to the homeless adults and children of Kansas City. The Royals Publicity department will follow up with media outlets prior to the event with the exact locations.
Proceeds from the February 11th bowling event will benefit The Salvation Army’s Children’s Shelter and the Honk n’ Holler program. Lefebvre’s Footprints Foundation is dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged youth in the greater Kansas City area by providing funding for athletic and educational equipment as well as environments for positive social growth. Since 2001, Lefebvre, the Royals and Dick’s Sporting Goods have teamed up to hold nine Gloves for Kids events, raising well over $70,000.
