WIMBLEDON, England (AP) _ Richard Gasquet (gas-KAY') rallied
from two-sets down to upset Andy Roddick in the men's quarterfinals
at Wimbledon. The 12th-seeded Frenchman earned a semifinals berth
against Roger Federer with his 4-6, 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, 8-6 victory over
the third-ranked American.
Federer, a four-time defending champion at the All England Club,
finished off a 7-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 quarterfinals victory over Juan
Carlos Ferrero earlier in the day.
Second-seeded Rafael Nadal (nah-DAHL'), the runner-up to Federer
last year at Wimbledon, ousted seventh-seeded Tomas Berdych
(bur-DEEK') 7-6, 6-4, 6-2 and will play Novak Djokovic
(YOH'-koh-vihch) in the semis. The fourth seed needed five sets to
get past tenth-seeded Marcos Baghdatis (bag-DA'-tihs).
Venus Williams advanced to the final with a 6-2, 6-4 win over
sixth seed Ana Ivanovic (ee-VAH'-no-vihch). The three-time ladies
champion will play Marion Bartoli, who ruined Justine Henin's
(EH'-nenz) chances for a career Grand Slam with a 1-6, 7-5, 6-1
victory over the top seed.
Ranked 20th and 31st, respectively, Bartoli and Williams are the
two lowest ranked women to reach the Wimbledon final since the
computer rankings began in 1975.
