The Kansas City Catbackers and Sports Radio 810 WHB will host a reunion of the living Voices of the Wildcats, July 7, 2007 at Kauffman Stadium. A reception will be held in the Royals Club prior to the 6:10 first pitch against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
The living “Voices” include such men as Fred White, long-time announcer for the Royals; Steve Physioc, current television play-by-play announcer for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim; Ron Paradis, long-time WIBW sports anchor; Mitch Holthus, current Voice of the Kansas City Chiefs; Greg Sharpe, Director of Operations, WIBW Radio and the Kansas Radio Networks; and Wyatt Thompson, current Voice of the Wildcats. All but Paradis are expected to attend.
The reception will begin at 3 p.m. with a light buffet and cash bar. The Voices able to attend will take their turns at the podium sharing their personal highlights of broadcasting Kansas State athletics at 4 p.m. The reception will conclude at 5:30 p.m., giving the Voices a chance to make it to the field to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
“Many of us grew up listening to these men paint pictures with their words,” Kansas City Catbackers President Matt Birzer said. “It will be great for the fans to meet them and hear them tell their favorite stories.”
The Kansas City Catbackers have purchased 500 tickets for the left-field general admission. During the game, the Voices will mingle through the crowd.
The cost for the reception is $25 for any Catbackers member and $30 for non-members. The tickets for the game are being sold separately for $13 but will be located together. Also included in the event will be silent auction items. All proceeds will go to an Ernie Barrett Endowment in the name of the Voices of The Wildcats for student-athletes majoring in the Kansas State A. O. Smith School of Journalism and Mass Communications.
There is limited seating available for the reception, so interested parties should respond quickly. The deadline for all responses is July 3.
