The Kansas City Royals have place designated
hitter Mike Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list because of a knee
injury. Sweeney is batting .245 with seven home runs and 31 r-b-i's in
57 games. The Royals recalled Billy Butler from Triple-A Omaha. The
21-year-old outfielder-first baseman was the team's first-round
pick in 2004. He's making his second appearance with the Royals this season after hitting .243 with two doubles and four r-b-i's the first two
weeks of May.
