Emporia State 37th in Final Director's Cup Standings

EMPORIA, KAN. (June 13, 2007)--On the strength of placing all ten
spring sports teams into NCAA postseason competition, Emporia State
University placed 37th in the final 2006-07 U.S. Sports Academy
Director*s Cup standings with 367.75 points. It is the second highest
point total ever for Emporia State and the third straight year ESU has
finished in the top 50 nationally out of nearly 300 NCAA Division II
schools

*Our athletic programs continue to compete on a national level, which
is the result of the efforts and dedication of our talented
student-athletes and coaches,* said ESU Athletic Director Kent Weiser.
*We are proud of every program's success on the field of competition
and in the classroom."

ESU joined Grand Valley State as the only two schools to place
nationally in men*s and women*s basketball, men*s and women*s
track and field, men*s and women*s tennis, baseball and softball
this year. The Hornets had top ten finishes in softball and women*s
tennis to highlight the year and were joined by men*s outdoor track
and field and baseball in the top 20 nationally.

ESU was one of six MIAA schools to rank in the top 50 out of 281 active
NCAA Division II member institutions. The MIAA*s six schools in the
top 50 ranked first among the 22 conferences in NCAA Division II. ESU
was the top ranked NCAA school in Kansas in the final rankings for the
second straight year.

In addition to the on field success, ESU had 22 student-athletes earn
Academic All-MIAA status and had a department wide GPA of 3.11 in the
spring of 2007.
