Washburn junior Kyle Peter was selected in the 34th round of the Major
League Baseball Draft Friday by the Detroit Tigers. In one year at
Washburn Peter batted leadoff and started in center field in every
game but one.
The all-MIAA honorable mention pick batted .337 and led the MIAA with
1.27 runs per game. He led the team and was third in the league with
27 stolen bases and his .75 walks per game was second best in the
Peter, the 1047th overall pick in the 50 round draft, had a .457 on-
base percentage with 61 hits and 36 walks and he stole 27 of 29 bases.
Peter became the sixth Washburn player picked in the MLB draft and the
first since outfielder J.P. Wright went in the 25th round to the
Minnesota Twins in 1988.
