Jackson Takes Third in Winter Pentathlon

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The 2009-10 track and field season officially started Friday with the annual Carol Robinson Winter Pentathlon at Ahearn Field House. A pair of freshmen competed for the Wildcats with Cenarda Jackson taking third place.

Jackson and Samantha Cooper were both competing in their first pentathlon and are new to a number of the disciplines in the event. Jackson finished with 2,887 points while Cooper did not finish due to a scheduling conflict with an academic commitment.

Jackson’s best event was the 60 meter hurdles finishing in 9.20 seconds to earn 869 points. Cooper also posted her best score in the hurdles with a time of 9.75 seconds and 759 points. Cooper tallied 1,665 points before pulling out of the event. She will compete in events in Saturday’s KSU All-Comers to gauge her overall score in a pentathlon.

In the high jump, Jackson leapt 4-11.50 to score 632 points and finish third in the discipline. She finished second in the shot put at 32-11.75 trailing Fort Hays Stat’s Carissa Heim by less than an inch.

The Wildcats will be in action on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m. for the annual KSU All-Comers with running events slated to start at 2 p.m. with a large field anticipated in a number of events.
