(June 8, 2007) – The Kansas City Royals team up with the Kansas City Chiefs for the seventh annual Royals and Chiefs Operation Blessing: Two Teams, One Goal on Saturday, June 9. Starting at 10:30 a.m., members of the two teams, including from the Royals five-time All-Star Mike Sweeney, pitcher Brian Bannister, outfielder Mark Teahen and mascot Sluggerrr, will join more than 200 volunteers to distribute groceries at the corner of 30th and Troost in Kansas City, Mo. Under the direction of Operation Blessing, the event aims to distribute food to more than 3,000 people in need in the Kansas City area. Area residents in need of assistance are encouraged to attend the Operation Blessing event to receive two free sacks of grocery products, as well as to meet Royals and Chiefs players. Perishable food products such as potatoes, onions and apples will be distributed, as well as non-perishables such as canned soup, crackers and cereal. Children will receive a special bag containing books, toys and candy (children must be present).
