AWRENCE, Kan. - University of Kansas pitcher Zach Ashwood has been drafted by the Chicago Cubs with the third pick of the 16th round (487 overall) in the 2007 MLB draft. Ashwood went 4-4 this past season with KU, posting a 5.77 ERA in 12 starts.
The junior transferred from TCU, where he spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career. A native of The Colony, Texas, Ashwood was originally drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 26th round of the 2004 MLB draft, but opted to go to college instead.
Ashwood is the first Jayhawk to be selected in this year's draft.
