MANHATTAN, Kan. – Laci Heller, Morgan Bonds and Kaylene Wagner of Kansas State were named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII track and field team, in an announcement by CoSIDA on Thursday. All three student-athletes will now be considered for Academic All-America status.
This is the second straight year Heller has been selected as an Academic All-District VII selection. After earning first team Academic All-District VII honors in 2006, she was selected to the second team of the Academic All-America team. She is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 first team selection.
Heller, a junior from Meriden, Kan., has a 4.0 GPA in feed science and management. She has also excelled on the track this season by reaching her third straight NCAA Outdoor Championship in the hammer throw.
Bonds, a junior from Hutchinson, Kan., holds a 3.97 GPA in biology and is a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first team choice. She reached her second straight NCAA Outdoor Championship in the 800-meter run by clocking a career-best of 2:06.07.
Wagner is a graduate student majoring in kinesiology with 4.0 GPA and a 2007 Big 12 Academic All-Big 12 first team selection. The native of Goleta, Calif., is a 2007 NCAA Indoor All-American in the high jump and advanced to the finals of the high jump at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Her season-best outdoor clearance of 6-02.25 ranks second in school history.
In the last three years, K-State has placed seven student-athletes (five female and two male) on the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VII teams. Two of these athletes have earned All-America honors, Heller and Trisha Culbertson.
Kansas State is in action this week at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Friday night’s events beginning at 7:30 p.m. (CDT) will be broadcast live on CSTV. The final day of competition on Saturday will also be broadcast live on CBS, beginning at 12 p.m.
