The Kansas City Chiefs announced on Saturday that the club has promoted RB Javarris Williams to the 53-man roster from the practice squad.
Williams (5-10, 223) entered the NFL as a seventh-round selection (212nd overall) of the Chiefs in the 2009 NFL Draft. He spent the first 11 games of the regular season on the club’s practice squad. He played in 43 games (33 starts) at Tennessee State, rushing 849 times for a school-record 4,329 yards (5.1 avg.) with 42 TDs. He also added 58 receptions for 788 yards (13.6 avg.) with two TDs. Williams earned all-state honors as a senior at Foster High School in Richmond, Texas.
The Chiefs placed RB Kolby Smith on injured reserve on Saturday. Smith has played in 27 career games (nine starts) for Kansas City, rushing 162 times for 540 yards (3.3 avg.). He also has 34 catches for 209 yards (6.1 avg.) and nine special teams tackles.
