HARSTAD, Norway - Freshman swimmer Monica Johannessen finished the fourth and final day of the Junior Norwegian Championships with two more medals on Sunday in Harstad, Norway. In her two events, she set a new personal-best time and a Junior Norwegian record.

"Monica finished the meet as well as she started," Kansas Head Coach Clark Campbell said. "Both swims today were big-time performances, especially considering it is at the end of a four-day meet. We are so happy for her."

Individually, Johannessen placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.80 seconds, a new best time for her.

The freshman from Haugesund, Norway also helped the 200 freestyle relay team capture first place in that event and set a new Norwegian Junior record-time of 1:44.86. Johannessen recorded a split-time of 24.71 seconds.

Throughout the four-day event, Johannessen won ten medals in ten events. She also earned a spot on the Senior Norwegian National team through her performance in the Junior Championships.

The Kansas swimming and diving team will return to action Thursday, Dec. 3 at the UVA Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. Please return to www.kuathletics.com for full results from the three-day event.
