Kansas' Amanda Costner Joins Teammate Annie Giangrosso

Kansas senior Amanda Costner qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship by shooting a 76 at the regional qualifier at Silverhorn Golf Club in Oklahoma City, Okla., Tuesday. A native of Claremore, Okla., Costner tied Morgan Chambers of Purcell, Okla., to advance to the championship.

Costner, who was named the Female Big 12 Sportsperson of the Year Thursday and won the conference individual title in April, will join teammate Annie Giangrosso at the U.S. Public Links Championship June 18-23 at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky. Giangrosso qualified in May at the Overland Park (Kan.) Golf Club.

This is the second straight year Costner has advanced to the championship and the third consecutive year for Giangrosso.
The U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship began in 1977 at Yahara Hills Golf Club in Madison, Wis. The WAPL is open to female golfers who have been bona fide public-course players since Jan. 1 of the current championship year. The competition is open to any bona fide public-course player whose USGA Handicap Index does not exceed 18.4. The WAPL is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
