Washburn Golfer Earns All-America Honors

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Washburn's Matt Ewald received second team PING All-America honors by the Golf Coaches Association of America team which was announced today. The first team was announced at the conclusion of the NCAA Division II Championships, where the Ichabods finished a school-best fifth.
Ewald led the Ichabods with a team-best stroke average of 72.9 while
recording eight top-five finishes - all of those were tournament
medalist honors. Ewald was also named the MIAA's Most Valuable Player.
Receiving honorable mention All-America honors from the GCAA were Ryan Deutsch and John Robbins. Deutsch won the NCAA Central Regional played in Joplin, Mo., and recorded a 73.8 stroke average this season. He was named to the All-MIAA golf team as well. Robbins carded the best finish
by any Ichabod golfer at the national tournament placing in a tie for
fifth with a 9-over, 293 for four rounds. Robbins was also a first team
All-MIAA pick with a 75.7 stroke average this season.
The second, third and honorable mention PING All-America Teams have been
announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Mitch Boles of
Central Oklahoma, Barry’s Hernan Borja, Daniel Creel of North Alabama,
West Florida’s Matthew Galloway, Andrew Georgiou and Christian Ries of
Columbus State, Abilene Christian’s Hughes Joannes, Eric Justesen of
CSU-Stanislaus and Sonoma State’s Farin Todd were previously named the
PING All-America First-Team.
Jake Amos of Lander, USC-Upstate’s Baxter Culler, Matt Ewald’s Washburn,
Valdosta State’s Jason Flowers, Andrew Hedrick of CSU-Pueblo, Wayne
State’s Ryan Johnson, Greg Koch of Florida Southern and North Alabama’s
Wes Smith were named to the second team.
Third-team honorees include St. Edward’s Nick Cristea, Frederico Damus
David Lingmerth of West Florida, Sonoma State’s Kyle Hopkins, David
Shearer of Northern Kentucky, Cameron’s Matt Trammel, Gene Webster of
CSU-San Bernardino and Armstrong Atlantic State’s Chris Wolfe. A total
of 29 golfers were named honorable mention All-America.
