KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Erik Bedard threw eight innings and Nick
Markakis (mahr-KAY'-kihs) hit a two-run homer as Baltimore earned
its fifth straight win, 3-to-0 at Kansas City.
Bedard gave up four hits and showed no effects from a rain delay
that caused the start of the game to be delayed for 96 minutes.
Jay Payton broke a scoreless tie with an R-B-I single in the
eighth, allowing Bedard to get to 4-and-3. Markakis poked a two-run
blast in the ninth, one inning after replacing right fielder Jay
Gibbons for defensive purposes.
Gil Meche (mehsh) pitched well in defeat, giving up a run and
four hits over seven and a-third. He's 3-and-4.
Chris Ray picked up his 12th save with a scoreless ninth.
The Royals have dropped seven in a row.
