TOPEKA, KS, MAY 29, 2007: The Topeka RoadRunners are proud to announce that veteran forward Cody Omilusik has reached an agreement to play for Division I Army Black Knights beginning in the fall of 2007.
“Cody is the kind of player that only has one speed, and that’s quick. He is the hockey version of Charlie Hustle”, said head coach Scott Langer. “I have no doubt he will be a huge success with Army.”
After reaching the Robertson Cup Finals with the Bozeman ICEDOGS in 2005-06, Omilusik headed to Santa Fe to play out his final season of junior eligibility. An every night player who only sat one game in 2006-07, he posted 22 goals and 24 assists while leading his team in Power Play goals with 12 on the year. Like most junior players, his goal was to find a solid college deal, and he was thrilled to find that opportunity with Army.
“I'm nervous and excited at the same time”, said Omilusik. “I think it will be an incredible challenge and I look forward to it”.
The Army Black Knights play in the AHA (American Hockey Association) along with 9 other schools, including Air Force, Canisius, and the University of Connecticut among others. The Black Knights finished 3rd in the AHA last season, going 17-12-5 overall.
Omilusik joins a growing list of 2006-07 RoadRunners to commit to Division I progams, preceded by Tibor Kutalek (University of Alaska-Fairbanks), Jason Krispel (University of Connecticut), Rafael Rodriguez (Robert Morris University), and Nick Hopper (University of Nebraska – Omaha).
