EMPORIA, KAN. (May 30, 2007) Emporia State soccer coach Jim
Schneiderhahn recently announced the addition of four student-athletes
that have signed to attend ESU and play soccer for the Hornets. The
foursome includes two Emporia HS products in addition to two out of
Lauren Cathey was an all-conference performer for Rocky Mountain HS in
Ft. Collins, Colo. She scored six goals with two assists for the Cougars
as they went 9-5-3 and advanced to the second round of the Colorado
*Lauren is a quality soccer player. She will bring pace and a
competitive desire that I love to the team,* said Schneiderhahn.
*She is one that we really wanted from the start.*
Kelli England returns to her hometown after two years at Allen county
Community College in Iola, Kan. She graduated from Emporia HS in 2003.
*Kelli is an unknown commodity in that she can play forward or
back,* said Schneiderhahn. *She fills the need of age and
experience to the club and brings some size to an otherwise smaller
Vanessa Gallegos is a two-time All-State performer at Cheyenne East HS.
The Thunderbirds were the Wyoming state runners-up this past season.
*Vanessa has a very good nose for the goal and is a battler,* said
Schneiderhahn. *She brings a a very high standard of play with her and
Kylee McCollough was a first-team All-Region and second-team
All-Centennial League performer for Emporia HS.
*Kylee is a tenacious player with a strong battling attitude,* said
Schneiderhahn. *She looks to go forward each time she gets the ball
and has a great attacking mentality.*
ESU returns 16 players with starting experience from last year*s
*This will be a small recruiting class, but one we feel brings the
right Hornet attitude we expect,* said Schneiderhahn.
