May 26, 2007—Three men and one woman earned All-American honors for the Emporia State track and field teams at the NCAA Division II National Championships in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday.
Tyson Allen threw 216-11 to finish as the national runner-up with the
fifth best javelin throw in ESU history. It is the first All-American
honor for Allen. Andy Vogelsberg finished fourth with a throw of 210-00 in the javelin. He became the first Hornet to earn All-American honors
in the same event four straight years since Al Feuerbach did it in the
shot from 1967-70. Jason Stuke earned All-American honors four times in five years in the shot from 1994-98.
Jonel Rossbach became the third ESU woman to earn All-American honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track in the same school year. She ran a personal best 4:33.00 to place eighth in the 1500m after finishing 17th in the nation in cross country and fourth in the indoor mile.
Trent Olivier became a two-time All-American in the discus for ESU. He
threw 164-07 to place eighth in the discus. Damon Birk placed 19th in
the discus with a throw of 147-01 to round out the competition for the
Hornets.
